Windows 10 mobile download stuck at 63% - valuable
Hey All,
Hoping for some quick answers here, im tired!
Basically, Windows update is stuck at 76%, has been there for at like hour and a half as thats when i remoted onto server to check the updates progress. I thought it may be Sophos scan running in background causing it to stop, but thats finished and it's still on 76%. Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit.
Any ideas? Currently running sfc /scannow to see if anything comes. Also checked if BITS was running, which it was.
Cheers
Managed to get this sorted in the end, downloaded this (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14668) and it highlighted faulty files and after they were repaired the updates installed fine.
Thanks for comments!
Run Overdrives script to clean up WSUS, details in this link, - https://community.spiceworks.com/scripts/show/2998-adamj-clean-wsus
Then delete the software distribution folder from the system and restart it. Or run this file - https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Reset-Windows-Update-Agent-d824badc
Then run the below script to reset WSUS SETTINGS and then wait

Cheers for quick reply. It's stuck on downloading, loads of free C drive space, but this is weird, check this out in windows update log file...

Should it be like that?
In server 2003 I would stop the autoupdate service, delete the \windows\softwaredistribution folder, start autoupdate service, and issue wuauclt /detectnow.
I seem to recall doing this in server 2008 will remove update installation history (in the update view). Would a reboot or a restart of the automatic update service be out of the question?
I am concerned that the updates say they are at 76% yet the log says no update to download. Kinda sounds like it is trying to install a patch (not download it) and it is hung - not on error but waiting for user input or something.

is it downloading and stuck at 76% or is it installing and stuck at 76%? What does the windowsupdate.log file state? Any event log errors?
Free space on C: drive? Some patches have some issues with low drive space.

And when cmd was verifying sfc/scannow it got to 95% then returned this error... Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation
I would say restart the service since it's only downloading.
probably the internet disconnected your session.
I do not have 2008 server but did have WIndows update stuck issues.
I ran ccleaner and chkdsk /r, (needs reboot do after hours as it takes time depending on data size) and that fixed my issue.
Generate one of these discs and use it for patching. If it doesn't work, set it on fire.

Just hard booted, scanning for updates now...
by the way, why do you have auto update enabled on a server?
for servers, you should always be updating it manually, as you know how reliable MS is with their updates.

I don't think so - you should test them but using WSUS or SCCM to automate approved patching is the way to go. I don't want to manually touch the hundreds of servers I am responsible for.
yes, Beast, you are right, what I ment was, to have it automatically download it directly to the server. Having WSUS or SCCM as an intermediary is the prefered method. Check those updates first, then if ok, push them out to your hundreds of servers in your server farm.
I'm just used to managing several servers, not hundreds.
Nooo lol. Dont ask why because WSUS is at early stages, but we had 130 updates for the terminal server outstanding so we went through them and left the ones we needed to download and update and the plan was to go back onto the server now and check everything was done smoothly and reboot it ourselves and check everything is working fine (again, not best practise i know) but came on and it was stuck at 76%.
Also just been informed by my boss (who also remoted on to take a look) that it got stuck at 76% earlier for him too so it maybe is a specific update. Ah well he said leave it for tonight and its probably a weekend thing now. Probably post back here if we manage to solve or it still isnt working, but thanks for suggestions all!

Update: We are going to follow this article http://xunyangit.wordpress.com/2011/03/20/cant-download-any-updates-on-windows-server-2008-r2 to see if this helps us. So similar to what I have quoted you as saying here beast. Hopefully this sorts it!
