MOV files won't download properly from Drive? 0 Recommended Answers 12 Replies270 Upvotes
I created several videos with my iphone and uploaded them to my Drive from the app on my phone. When I went to a desktop (running Chrome) to download them from Drive to desktop, all I can get is the audio file. I can hear them fine, but there is no video. The videos are playing fine when I watch them in Drive, it's only after they download that I'm getting the issue. No videos were shared, since I am the owner/creator of all of them, so it's not a permissions issue...

What is the size of the files once they are on your desktop? What is the size of the same file in your cloud?

The file sizes vary from 6MB to 110MB in the cloud. They keep the same file size when they download.

Then the file on your computer/tablet is the same as in the cloud. All Google Drive does when you download is to send a complete copy of the file down- it would not extract the audio only and send it. Also, if for some weird reason it did extract the audio, the files would be very tiny compared to the full video.
It sounds like for some reason the player you are using on the downloaded file is only pulling the audio out.

I am having a similar issue... I get the video too, but the audio does not line up with the video. It is fine in my google drive. It is clearly a google issue and not the player issue.

Make sure there's a .MOV extension in the name of the video and try again. Worked for me.

I found the issue causing my problem. Apple, in their infinite wisdom, have, (with the lastest iphone OS) introduced the HEVC codec, and in true Apple fashion the latest Quicktime doesn't even have the codec.. so their own software isn't compatible with the new Codec. THIS is the crap they pull and why I will never go back to using an iPhone.
There are codecs you can download and use to resolve the issue.
