Why is the latest Gran Turismo Sport update so gigantic?
If you load up Gran Turismo Sport, you are going to be slapped with 24GB of update goodness. But avoid getting too excited about juicy new content.
Update 1.16 is actually relatively basic in terms of what it changes. The reason for being such a large file is that it includes all previous updates in one, as opposed to being separate as per usual.
There is some good news. Those who use the Thrustmaster T500RS steering wheel will now find it works, having been broken by the previous 1.15 update, and that the issue with certain sounds failing to play has been rectified.
The full list of changes, according to developer Polyphony Digital, reads as follows:
1) Steering Controller: Fixed an issue where the Thrustmaster® T500RS became unusable in the 1.15 Update. 2) Sound: Fixed an issue where operating sounds, and sound effects such as tire screeching noise would sometimes stop working while playing. 3) Sports Mode / Lobby: Fixed an issue where the car is not displayed properly during pit stops and fixed an issue where the playback feature was disabled while spectating.
The developer also said 'other minor corrections and adjustments have been performed' and explained the reason for such a big update was because 'the PS4 Patch distribution uses the SIE differential patch distribution service, but we have found that this patch is currently set in the system to re-download all patches'.
Groundwork for the big April update on the 9th, which will include the Audi E-Tron Vision Gran Turismo and the GR Supra Racing Concept to name two officially confirmed additions, may have also been added.

Update: Sony has now made it possible to install the 1.16 update separately, resulting in a more data-friendly 107MB download. Simply cancel your current download and away you go.
