Protect Yourself From Tech Support Scams

Tech support scams are an industry-wide issue where scammers trick you into paying for unnecessary technical support services. You can help protect yourself from scammers by verifying that the contact is a Microsoft Agent or Microsoft Employee and that the phone number is an official Microsoft global customer service number.

If the option to disable reverse scrolling in unavailable, then I would you to install the latest ELAN touch pad driver from the manufacturer’s website and then check if the issue persists. The ELAN driver overrides the Microsoft basic driver, so any options need to be added the by the ELAN driver support.

If you couldn’t find any driver updates, then I would suggest you to reinstall the driver and check. Download the driver from the manufacturer’s website and then try these steps:

a)      Press Windows key + X, select Device manager.

b)      Locate the touch pad.

c)       Right click the device and select “Properties”.

d)      Click on the driver tab to check the current driver installed for that device.

e)      Click on the uninstall button to uninstall that driver.

f)       Now, install the driver downloaded from the manufacturer’s website and check.

If the issue persists, I would suggest you to contact the manufacturer support for further assistance:

Stanley124, let me know if this helps:

1. Go to control panel and click "Mouse".
2. Go to the tab at the top that says "Elan", then click "Options..." toward the middle of the screen. You should now be in the Elan Smart-Pad settings window.
3. Click the "Additional" tab, and under Gesture Effect, choose "Microsoft modern touchpad experience", then click Apply.
4. Now go back to the multi-finger tab, and under "Scrolling" you should see some additional options, one being "Reverse".  Uncheck this then click OK.

Bennet Martin, this is not an acceptable answer, even if it isn't a Windows problem but a manufacturer's problem.  It is not a good practice to tell the customer to uninstall their mouse driver and go reinstall the same driver from the Acer website.
