The app is useful for anyone who is interested in contributing or inspecting a git/github repository and for developers working in a repository.
We get our data from github, via their v3 API, and the git repository itself. You can of course use this app for a git repository that is not on github, i.e. a local repository on your computer.
You can quickly get a good overview over the status and health of any github repo with Splunkgit. When commits has occurred, when contributors joined, how the growth has been, etc.
We also provide dashboards for authors, files and file types. These dashboards contain dropboxes and free search fields where suitable, so you can search for any file, package, files, authors, etc. with ease.
The app is also available on github. So if you would like to use our project as test data for Splunkgit or contribute to the project, you can!
Note: The app should be compatible with Splunk 4.0 and 4.1, but it's not tested.
We've also blogged about this app. Read our blog:
How we developed this app: part 1, part 2
